* He used to be Ventus, one of the three apprentices to Master Eraqus and the former apprentice of Master Xehanort.

* Master Xehanort wanted Vanitas and Ven to merge, thus creating the X-blade.

* Knowing this would endanger the lives of his friends and possibly the worlds, Ventus requested to be erased should he fail to defeat Vanitas.

* In the end, Vanitas was far too strong, and Ventus lost control over himself. This left Terra to fulfill his promise and erase his friend.

* Upon being erased, his heart went into Sora, shaping the boy's destiny.

* Eventually Roxas was born, both with a fragment of Ven's heart (including suppressed memories), and his appearance. He was recruited into the Organization by Xemnas, who ironically was the empty shell of his old friend.

* He can use the Keyblade, both due to his tie to Ven and his tie to Sora.

* As for Xion... While, yes, she was meant to absorb Roxas, this was in truth to complete Ven, so that he could be reborn quicker. Since technically Roxas absorbed Xion, it has helped, but not as much as it could have. Also, the Xion of his universe fed off of Ven's memories as opposed to Sora's, triggering a sort of 'awakening' once Roxas absorbed her.

* He went to find Xemnas, partially to save Kingdom Hearts at Xion's behest, but also to get answers about the memories suddenly flooding his mind.

* Riku fought and captured him, just like in canon. However, because Sora's memories were progressing on their own, Roxas was placed in the virtual Twilight Town as a prisoner; after all, if the Organization had access to the Keyblade, it would foil DiZ's scheme.

* He was given fake memories and a new life to slow down the process of his awakening. However, Ven's memories continue to creep to the surface. It's only a matter of time...
